Sydney, 19-01-2023 – After going on-sale to the Australian public just four weeks ago, the CUPRA Born battery electric vehicle (BEV) is pushing towards 350 orders as the sporty Spanish brand moves beyond 2,000 orders for its range.
Following the success of the Leon VZe and Formentor VZe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models, CUPRA's first BEV has quickly seized the imagination of the local public – as plug-ins begin to define the brand's progressive offerings.
It took CUPRA five months to achieve its first 1,500 orders in Australia, and the Born has helped take that brand-wide total past 2,000 just one month later.
CUPRA Australia Director Ben Wilks said: "For CUPRA's customers, almost all of whom are private rather than fleet buyers, BEV technology is affordable and the ultimate solution to removing fuel costs and tailpipe emissions. For them, and a growing numbers of Australian, no considerations could be more critical.
"As a brand we are moving quickly into a fully electrified future, and the response to the CUPRA Born demonstrates that Australians have a voracious appetite for plug-in models that both reduce their emissions, are stylish and fun to drive.
"Being compact, rear-wheel drive, with instant torque and teamed with a long 500km-plus range places the Born in a unique position in the market – and all for less than $60,000 before on-road costs."
The Born offers the most range (511km WLTP) for a more attainable price than any BEV in Australia – a noteworthy feat given the vehicle's European design and engineering, and demonstrating CUPRA's clear intent in the Australian market.
Deliveries for the CUPRA Born begin in late March/early April, 2023. The current order bank stands at 343 and CUPRA will continue to take orders for its first BEV until approximately 400 orders – rounding out the first batch of Borns to arrive.
Launching with nine outlets nationwide – including in three shopping precincts – has enabled CUPRA to be seen by more Australians more often. The Born, complementing the best-selling Formentor, the Leon and the Ateca, has meant that within six months CUPRA has moved beyond 2,000 local customer orders.
