The first two races of the Darwin V8 Supercars weekend proved
eventful for Wilson Security Racing GRM (Volvo Polestar Racing)
drivers Scott McLaughlin and David Wall. After an early retirement
in the first race, McLaughlin climbed back into the top ten to
finish ninth in the second race.
"Today has been a pretty tough gig. The car feels not too bad,
but it is so close. I made an awesome start in both races but
didn't quite get the result we wanted," said McLaughlin.
The Kiwi retired in the first race after an incident with Craig
Lowndes but made up some ground in the second race after an
incident packed first lap.
"I just got caught up in a kerfuffle in the first race and made
a move on Lowndes, we were three wide that I didn't know about. The
car felt really good in the second race but I just got hung out to
dry on lap one and dropped to 13th. The fight back up to ninth was
good fun. We are still getting some bad luck but we are not helping
our selves by qualifying down the back. We will continue to push on
hard for tomorrow," said McLaughlin.
Team mate Wall had his share of incidents in both races as well.
The first race saw Wall climbing in to the top ten from the back of
the grid, before dropping to 15th after a mistake. The second race
saw Wall making strong progress as well, before being pushed off
track by Dale Wood.
"There was plenty of action going on at Darwin, that is for
sure. We really need to find something for qualifying, it is making
our lives pretty hard. I was making good progress in the first
race, but unfortunately ran wide and dropped some spots. I had a
good start in the second race and everything looked okay, then
unfortunately Dale Wood got me in the back wheel and sent me off
track. Hopefully tomorrow we can qualify better and set the ground
for a good day," said Wall.
The V8 Supercar action in Darwin continues tomorrow with a final
race of 70 laps.
