The all-new Suzuki Swift Sport made its Australian debut at the official press launch on Thursday 11 January at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex in Broadford Victoria.
Australian Media professionals were given the opportunity to race down straights and hug corners in Suzuki's hot new Turbo-charged hatch and also had the pleasure of witnessing Australian Superbike Champion, Josh Waters, scream around the track on his full race spec Suzuki GSX-R1000R.
Josh Waters is the official Team Suzuki Superbike Racer and avid ambassador of the Suzuki brand; having Josh at the media launch was a nod to Suzuki's sporting DNA across its product lines with both the GSX-R1000R and Swift Sport racing back to back on the Broadford race track.
The latest generation of the Swift Sport brings with it a myriad of changes which include a BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine, a lower and wider stance, aggressive styling, and new safety and technological features which catapult the Sport into true hot hatch territory.
Swift Sport's 1.4L BOOSTERJET direct injection turbo engine boasts 7-hole injector nozzles enabling higher pressure and atomised fuel injection for more powerful engine output and a cleaner exhaust, while the sophisticated wastegate valve control constantly monitors boost pressure to minimise fuel consumption whilst cruising, offering a fuel consumption of just 6.1L/100km.*
The pairing of the BOOSTERJET engine which offers high torque from low revs with the Swift Sport's compact dimensions and a kerb weight that's sub one-tonne should be music to the ears of sports-minded drivers. The astounding torque-to-weight ratio is sure to get owners temperature rising with an 80kg lighter total kerb weight over the outgoing model and 230Nm of torque, approximately 4.2kg/Nm.
Swift Sport chief engineer Mr Masao Kobori said, "We know that our customers value a dynamic driving experience above everything else, so for the third-generation Swift Sport our development concept was Ultimate Driving Excitement."
"We've made the all-new Swift Sport lighter, faster and more stimulating in every way!" continued Kobori.
With rally inspired styling and a low and wide wheelbase the all-new Swift Sport is sure to turn heads. Featuring an aggressive staggered black honeycomb grille, thin spoke 17-inch polished alloy wheels, dual exhausts, LED headlamps, daytime running lights and fog lamps. Carbon fibre look front bumper highlights, under spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser complete the standout design.
The sporty elements of the all-new Swift Sport continue when one opens the door. Semi-bucket seats embossed with the a "Sport" logo, red stitching throughout, a D-shaped dimpled leather steering, red highlights across the dash and sports alloy pedals instantly fill the driver with adrenalin.
Whilst power and appearance were key considerations of the all-new Swift Sport, the standard list of safety and technological equipment is equally as impressive. The Swift Sport boasts keyless start and entry, electric folding mirrors, driver multi information colour LCD, climate control, 7-inch multi-touch colour display unit with sat-nav, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, reverse camera, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto.®
Swift Sport rests on the HEARTECT platform, a new generation Suzuki platform that delivers enhanced fundamental vehicle performance due to being light and highly rigid. In addition to adopting the new HEARTECT platform Swift Sport features Suzuki's TECT (Total Effective Control Technology) body which is designed to absorb and disperse energy should a collision occur.
Swift Sport has been awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and features 6 airbags and electronic stability control. In addition, advanced preventative safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, weaving alert, high beam assist and adaptive cruise control.

Suzuki Australia Automobiles General Manager, Mr Michael Pachota said, "The New Swift Sport maintains everyday usability, is aggressive and full of emotion. Our flagship model, we can confidently say has evolved into the true HOT HATCH."
"The SWIFT SPORT has already taken the Japanese sports hatch enthusiast market by storm, headlining many auto performance enhancement brands with their take on the new Swift Sport in recent Auto Shows. The 3rd generation Swift Sport dominated by offering, again to the market, what the world experienced with the SWIFT GTI in the late 80's and all through the 90's and I have no doubt it will do the same in Australia in 2018 and beyond - every racetrack across the country will be sure to have its name on it." said Pachota.
The All-New Swift Sport commenced public sales on January 13th, 2018 in the Australia Automotive Market and is available at all Suzuki Australia Dealers for test drive now.
