Academic and industry researchers from Asia and Europe are joining Australian colleagues to present at APAC21 In Melbourne in October.

Leading automotive researchers from Asian and European automakers and universities are signing up to present their work at APAC21, the 21st biennial Asia Pacific Automotive Engineering Conference.

As Australian and overseas borders open up, more and more international researchers are signing up for the conference, to be staged in Melbourne 3-5 October 2022.

APAC21 is hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers – Australasia (SAE-A), the peak professional body for automotive and mobility engineering.

Chairman and CEO Adrian Feeney said Australia and South Korea were leading the count, and the rate of submissions was growing now that Australia's borders were open.

"We also have papers coming from India, Japan, China and Malaysia, plus a growing number from Austria, Germany, and most recently the Czech Republic," he said.

"Industry and academia are both strongly represented, with contributions from Volkswagen and BMW in Germany, and from the Graz University of Technology in Austria.

"Not least, from Australia we have abstracts from Toyota Australia, RMIT University, University of Melbourne, ARRB, AustRoads and several specialist researchers."

APAC21 technical chair, Prof Mohammad Fard of RMIT University, said the quality of papers would make a world class conference on the theme of Harmonising the Future of Mobility.

"With our focus on autonomous vehicle technology, we have a great number of abstracts on digital transformation, software and electronics, and automated and connected mobility," he said.

"But there are also really interesting submissions in more traditional vehicle engineering areas such as materials and manufacturing, vehicle dynamics, crash safety and even comfort and ergonomics.

"Importantly, our abstracts also cover electric, hydrogen and fuel cell technology, and the wider topic of vehicle emissions and pollutants."
