PERFORMAX International, Australia's leading importer of US-built passenger vehicles, has employed industry-leading technology to produce the world's first right-hand drive version of the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

The result is a striking two-door sports coupe with the driving feel, look and quality of the factory original, engineered for Australian Design Rule compliance and registration in any Australian State or Territory.

Performax International will offer the range-topping Camaro SS with 6.2 litre LS3 V8 engine from $139,000 driveaway and other models from $129,000, depending on specification.

Described by Automobile magazine in the United States as "the ultimate red-blooded, blue-collar fashion statement", the fifth-generation Camaro has been a huge hit with customers and media reviewers in its home market since it was launched last May, almost eight years after the previous model ended production.

Motor Trend magazine noted: "Chevrolet has pulled off a near-masterstroke. The new Camaro excels by almost every objective and subjective measure: design, power, handling, efficiency, comfort, convenience, safety and, perhaps most important of all, accessability to the Camaro faithful."

Road and Track said: "The Camaro SS is a fun car to drive and not just when you're laying down twin black stripes (which it performs with ease)."

Performax International obtained one of the first Camaros for sale in the US and shipped it to its factory in Gympie, Queensland, to start prototype conversion work.

With 20 years' experience in right-hand drive conversion and the latest Computer Aided Design technology, Performax has been able to achieve extremely high standards of engineering and component fit and finish.

The process starts with a three-dimensional computer scan of parts that need to be reproduced for right-hand drive. Using CAD software, scans are then reverse-engineered and solid plastic prototypes produced by a three-dimensional printer.

The final result is exceptional accuracy and factory-standard quality, complemented by shorter development and production times.

Camaro racing legend Kevin Bartlett, who tested the 2010 car before launching it today, strongly praised the quality of Performax International's work.

"You can't pick that it hasn't come straight from the factory. There's no compromise, none," Bartlett said.

"It's just done the way you would want your own car to be."
