MG is paying their respect to South Sydney Rabbitohs family bloodlines by wrapping a MG HS (SUV) in a design that has components of the official 2024 Indigenous jersey that will be worn by the team at this weekend’s Indigenous Round.
The Club’s Indigenous jersey is all about connections, but it means even more to its designer, Uncle Joe Walker, who is a proud Wahlabul man that has a special link to the design.
“I couldn't be any prouder. This design is the most special to me, representing my people, their families, communities, and tribes. The warrior spirit is central to the artwork, showing that everyone is represented. It’s an overwhelming feeling, close to the joy of having your children born.”
This year’s jersey tells several stories and respects traditions while showing the significance of belonging and unity. Uncle Joe also spoke about the symbolism on the bonnet of the MG car in relation to the design on the jersey.
“The art on the bonnet has deep meaning, reflecting all the community coming together to celebrate.. The design on the MG HS is not just art; it’s a tribute to our collective spirit and heritage.”
Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Motor Australia, said, "Uncle Joe’s design is beautiful and tells a great story of his people and community. MG is proud to see this artwork applied to our vehicle ahead of National Reconciliation Week. Like the Rabbitohs, MG will wear the artwork with respect and recognition of the contribution indigenous culture has made to Australia.”
Fans will be able to see the artwork up close at South Sydney’s game at Accor Stadium this weekend when they take on Parramatta. MG has proudly supported the Rabbitohs since 2021 and will continue to do so through to the end of the 2026 season at least.
