Zetland, February 12, 2021 – Audi Australia welcomes the arrival of the latest iteration of its popular mid-size luxury SUV range, the new Q5. Combining contemporary design aesthetics, an innovative new user interface, advanced engine technology and an outstanding list of equipment, the new Q5 is set to continue the success of its predecessors.
"The refreshed Audi Q5 builds on its remarkable reputation as one of the most successful SUVs on the market," said Nikki Warburton, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer at Audi Australia.
"Well-known for its performance, striking design and clever versatility, the Audi Q5 now offers even more intelligent features that make it the most complete SUV in its segment."
A vision of confidence, the new Audi Q5 is characterised by the latest iconic Audi design language with a completely refreshed exterior design that looks even more powerful than its predecessor. Standard 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels (depending on the model) accentuate its muscular shoulder lines and imposing Singleframe grille at the front.
New LED headlights feature standard on the Q5, for optimal visibility behind the wheel, and unique daytime running lights that encapsulate the sophisticated The exterior design. World-first digital OLED tail lights debut as an option in the new Q5 model range, further enhancing its safety credentials. This technology displays a unique warning signal to drivers within a two-metre proximity of the rear of the Q5, by creating a choreographed sequence of flashing lights.
Inside the cabin, the new Q5 is endowed for comfort and versatility with intuitive new technology, offering seamless integration of the Audi smartphone interface via Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. Unique displays in the standard Audi virtual cockpit plus provide all necessary information for the driver, enhanced by the new 10.1-inch high-resolution MMI touch display. With its crystal clear 1,540 x 720 pixel resolution, the beautifully crafted display is seamlessly integrated into the dashboard, and is only 13mm slender. Despite this, it is a powerful platform that commands all manner of convenient 'touch or talk' driving, infotainment and connectivity functions.
Additional features include Audi phone box light with the convenience of wireless charging for mobile phones (with Qi standard) and two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, Digital DAB+ radio and 4 USB outlets (two in the rear).
For the first time ever, the new Q5 offers the convenience of Audi connect plus functionality, with the integration of online traffic, weather conditions, fuel prices, parking information and Google Maps into the Q5 driving experience, together with additional functions enabled through the myAudi smartphone app like remote lock/unlock, service request, emergency call and more, thanks to the embedded SIM card.
The new Q5 line-up will consist of two TDI drivetrains and one TFSI engine, available in five model variations: Q5 40 TDI quattro, Q5 45 TFSI quattro, Q5 40 TDI quattro Sport, Q5 45 TFSI quattro Sport and Q5 50 TDI quattro S line.
The new Q5 engine range provides outstanding power delivery, enhanced with progressive Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology for strong performance and efficiency. To fully harness the strength of the engine, the Q5 40 TDI and 45 TFSI are equipped with a smooth-shifting seven-speed S tiptronic, directing power to the road via the legendary Audi quattro all-wheel drive with ultra technology. The Q5 50 TDI comes fitted with an 8-speed tiptronic and a quattro system that features a self-locking centre differential.
The Q5 40 TDI is a powerful and efficient entry model, endowed with an additional 10kW over its predecessor for peak power of 150kW and 400Nm of torque. Exceptional long-distance range is assured thanks to remarkable fuel efficiency of only 5.4 litres /100 km in combination with the standard 70 litre fuel tank, providing a theoretical range of over 1,250 km. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine ensures the 0-100km/h sprint is despatched in just 7.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 222 km/h. Not only powerful, the new 12V MHEV engine is equipped with twin-dosing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), with double AdBlue injection. Audi uses complex exhaust aftertreatment systems to meet increasingly lower emission limits, and such technologies reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions of TDI engines by more than 90 percent.
The popular Q5 45 TFSI models are powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine also with 12V MHEV, producing 183kW and 370Nm of torque, reaching 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds.
The potent 50 TDI engine is the performance model in the range; boasting a 3.0-litre, V6 engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology (MHEV), producing 210kW/620Nm and catapulting itself to 100km/h from rest in 5.7 seconds.
The new Q5 offers a substantial amount of equipment as standard across the range, affording comfortable accommodation for the driver and passengers alike. Ease-of-use is a high priority, with features like the keyless convenience key and a multi-function leather steering wheel replete with shift paddles and new hands-on detection technology, to make the advanced assistance systems even more seamless in their support of the driver's task. Additional highlights include leather appointed seats, electric front seats with 4-way electric lumbar support, 3-zone climate control air conditioning (with rear digital display), ambient interior lighting, an electric tailgate with gesture control and frameless auto-dimming interior mirror.
The luggage compartment can store up to 520 litres (1,520 litres with the backrests folded flat). The rear seat can be split 40:20:40 and optionally slides fore/aft to create additional luggage space or legroom, as desired.
Safety is a high priority for all Audi vehicles, and the Q5 is no exception. A comprehensive array of safety features includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, attention assist to mitigate lapsing concentration, eight airbags, side assist, active lane assist, exit warning system, hill descent control, cross traffic assist rear, parking system plus with reversing camera, tyre pressure monitor and pre-sense rear.
The Q5 40 TDI and 45 TFSI Sport model variants are further enhanced with 20-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof. Additional equipment highlights of Sport models include:
- Sport front seats (with heating, driver memory)
- Adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go (including traffic jam assist)
- Collision avoidance assist
- Turn assist
- 360-degree camera
- Park assist
- Audi sound system (10 speakers, 180 Watts including subwoofer)
The new 50 TDI S line is the pinnacle of the dynamic Audi Q5 range and is equipped with an intuitive electrically adjustable steering column, boasting memory and easy entry functions and a head-up display as standard. It also features the decidedly sporty S line exterior design package, which includes:
- Honeycomb pattern grill in titanium black
- Distinctive front bumper design with trapezoid elements on each end with matt aluminium silver inserts
- Illuminated door sill trims with S lettering
- Rear diffuser with selenite silver trim
A selection of 12 exterior colours are available on the new Audi Q5, as well as four interior colour schemes.
The new Audi Q5 model range is offered with the comprehensive Audi five-year service plan package, priced at $2,720 for the TFSI models or $3,160 for the TDI models.
Despite the high levels of equipment, select equipment packages are available such as the Assistance package (available on the 40 TDI and 45 TFSI), Comfort package and the Technik package (both available on the Sport, S line and Launch Edition).
Initially, a limited number of Q5 Launch Editions will be available, equipped with unique luxury and styling features, including:
- Metallic paint
- 20-inch bi-colour alloy wheels in Falx design
- Black exterior styling package with black roof rails
- Carbon exterior mirrors

The new Audi Q5 is manufactured at the Audi San José Chiapa site in Mexico, which derives 100% of its power from renewable energy resources, generated by a photovoltaic plant in Chihuahua, Mexico.
