- New variant of the highly successful SQ5 TDI, with even more power
- Potent 3.0 TDI Biturbo V6 engine with 250kW/700Nm
- For the first time, a Q5 is equipped with a quattro sport differential
Phillip Island, 13 April 2016 – Luxury SUV buyers now have an even more potent choice within the Audi Q5 range. Following in the footsteps of the highly successful SQ5 TDI, a new, even more focussed sibling arrives: the SQ5 TDI plus. It features an even more powerful version of the 3.0 TDI Biturbo V6 engine, with 250kW and an earth-turning 700Nm. Together with a comprehensive list of sporty upgrades and individual design elements, the SQ5 plus is a compelling vehicle for performance car aficionados.
"The instant affinity Australian performance car buyers had for the Audi SQ5 TDI was unprecedented," said Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia Pty Ltd.
"In 2013, we launched the SQ5 TDI as a totally new concept for our brand – a performance SUV. And its extraordinary success proves that it delivers on all of its promise: storming engine power, practical versatility, intelligent functionality and most of all, the sophisticated sense of quality that makes an Audi distinctive.
"Quite simply, the new SQ5 TDI plus offers discerning buyers even more in all of those areas, and so we are very confident that it will find favour just as quickly," said Mr Doyle.
The concept of TDI diesel performance has great authenticity for Audi, in keeping with the brand's six stunning victories at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans over the past decade. Even the Audi R18 hybrid prototype that will contest this year's World Endurance Championship (WEC) is driven by TDI power, as well as hybrid electric energy.
In the SQ5 TDI plus, the 3.0 TDI Biturbo V6 engine generates 250kW from 4100-4300rpm, but the really impressive figure is the torque: 700Nm available from just 1500rpm. It's this easy delivery of smooth power that has endeared the SQ5 TDI to its owners. It works seamlessly with the slick-shifting eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.
Acceleration is rapid, with the SQ5 TDI plus reaching 100km/h from rest in 5.1 seconds, while fuel consumption is impressive, at 6.8 litres per 100km. This means the SQ5 TDI plus, like its SQ5 TDI sibling, sits under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold of 7.0 L/100km.
A sound actuator in the exhaust system gives the engine a uniquely deep, sonorous sound, with a kind of sporty note that was previously not thought possible from a diesel.
The SQ5 TDI plus benefits from the secure handling of the Audi quattro all-wheel-drive system for confident driving. Additionally, a quattro sport differential, with active torque vectoring is fitted for the first time to a Q5. It is available exclusively (and fitted as standard) to the SQ5 plus.
The entire Audi Q5 range comes standard with eight airbags, and with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
A strong value equation is particularly important to families considering a purchase in the SUV segment, and the SQ5 TDI plus is no exception. Standard equipment highlights, on top of the SQ5 TDI, include:
? Special 20-inch alloy wheels
? Red brake calipers
? Interior design package in fine Nappa leather, with diamond pattern contrasting stitching in dark silver and leather instrument binnacle
? Carbon inlays
? Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
? Unique rear tailpipe design
? Extended high-gloss black exterior package
The new Audi SQ5 TDI plus is on-sale now.
