Phillip Island, 13 April 2016 – The storming pair of heavy hitters at the pinnacle of the Audi Sport RS range are back, boasting even more artillery than before. The all-new RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback performance models offer even more power, distinctive design features and a very appealing range of features.
"The Audi RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback models have been extraordinarily successful in this current generation," said Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia Pty Ltd.
"However, discerning customers at this very top end of the luxury sports car market are always looking for an edge, and the new Audi Sport RS performance models really offer a captivating combination of dynamic ability and individual design touches. These new models really stretch their legs ahead of the competition," said Mr Doyle.
The RS 6 Avant performance and the RS 7 Sportback performance are the ideal complement to one another. For some owners, the RS 6 Avant is a more versatile and practical solution, with an extra 30 litres of luggage space (RS 6: 565 litres and RS 7: 535 litres, respectively) due to the squarer load area, yet the distinctive silhouette and breathtaking styling of the RS 7 Sportback will make it the preferred choice for the design driven. What they share in common, though, is the ability to turn on phenomenal performance when required, thanks to the mighty engine they share.
Producing 445kW and 700Nm (750Nm on overboost), the mighty 4.0 TFSI twin-turbo V8 engine features an innovative design, with the exhaust and turbochargers sitting inside the 'vee', and intakes plumbed to the outside of the engine. This is in contrast to conventional design, but the greater thermal efficiency of this layout aids better fuel efficiency and lower emissions (EU6 compliant). Fuel consumption is impressively low for such a thoroughbred engine concept, at just 9.6 and 9.7 litres per 100km for the RS 7 Sportback and RS 6 Avant respectively. Much of this is due to the innovative Cylinder on Demand (CoD) technology also shuts down four of the eight cylinders under partial load to save fuel.
Performance is in the realm of elite supercars, with astonishing acceleration that sees both reach 100 km/h from rest in just 3.7 seconds (0.2sec quicker). A top speed of up to 305 km/h is possible with the Dynamic Package Plus.
The 4.0 TFSI engine's incredible energy is applied to the road via an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and the legendary Audi quattro all-wheel drive system.
Key visual points of difference between the performance models and their predecessors is a titanium look finish, with accents on the singleframe grille, front spoiler and air intakes, mirror caps, window surrounds and rear diffuser. New 21-inch wheels in keeping with the matt titanium look also mark a strong visual presence.
Inside the cabin is an Audi Exclusive combination of Alcantara and Valcona leather upholstery is highlighted by marcato blue honeycomb stitching, along with a unique carbon fibre blue twill inlay. Additional leather touches and contrasting stitching set these models apart. A new Ascari blue colour is also available by special order.
The innovative Matrix LED headlights are standard, which offer an incredible level of forward vision at night-time, without blinding other motorists. Dynamic turning indicators at the front and rear are also standard – a real safety advancement in low-visibility conditions.
The high-resolution Driver Information System (DIS) sits in between the speedometer and tachometer readouts, and can display crystal-clear map-based navigation right in the driver's natural field of vision. This intelligent ergonomic innovation from Audi is powered by the new-generation MIB2 infotainment system, which itself is driven by the latest Nvidia Tegra 30 quad-core processor. An overboost display is also present in the DIS, and an Audi Drive Select button is sited on the multi-function steering wheel, so that the driver can switch between the distinct modes of performance that these vehicles offer.
As expected of high-performance models that sit at the very top end of the Audi RS range, both models come equipped with a very high level of standard equipment, including the following:
- RS adaptive air suspension
- Digital TV reception with DAB plus
- quattro sports differential
- RS sports exhaust
- Head-up display (HUD)
- Audi parking system plus with front, rear and 360 degree view, park assist
- Panoramic glass sunroof (panoramic only for RS 6 Avant)
- RS leather-covered multifunction flat-bottom sport steering wheel in 3-spoke design
- Electrically opening and closing tailgate with gesture control
In addition, key performance packages allow discerning enthusiasts to customise their vehicle.
The $4,900 dynamic package adds dynamic steering, a higher top speed threshold of 280km/h and the incredible capabilities of the Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) system. This suspension system replaces the air setup and instead uses a hydraulic, diagonal link between the front and rear dampers to ensure the car is perfectly poised during all manner of dynamic driving. The $25,840 Dynamic package plus adds all of the above with an even higher top speed threshold, at 305 km/h, and also with the incredible, indefatigable stopping power of the ceramic brake system.
The $8,500 Carbon styling package provides distinctive visual intent on the vehicle's exterior, with a number of design touches in the appealing raw carbon fibre finish.
