Yamaha Motor Australia has released the 2008 version of its road
legal TT-R230 dirt bike with some key updates aimed to help the
four-stroke machine take on the toughest challenges.
Full lighting kit, indicators and mirrors means the TT-R230A
complies with Australian Design Regulations and can be ridden on
the road plus join the fun on the trails.
The versatile 230cc engined dirt bike is designed for riders of
different sizes and abilities, and is ideal whether pottering
around and learning the ropes or exploring the bush in the company
of bigger capacity machines.
This versatility comes thanks largely to a compact wheelbase and
low seat height that offers superb manoeuvrability and
super-responsive handling. The TT-R230A also features YZ styling
with flat seat/tank junction for great rider mobility. And the
YZ-style diamond-type frame provides great handling and
strength.
A strong, air-cooled, SOHC, 4-stroke engine with electric start
pumps out predictable power aimed at easing both beginning and
intermediate riders into the off-road experience. Convenient,
reliable electric starter ensures hassle-free, push-button
starting.
A smooth shifting, six-speed transmission with heavy-duty manual
clutch taps into the TT-R's broad powerband for instant hook-up in
a wide range of conditions.
The TT-R230A comes with lots of convenience features
including
ultra-reliable CD ignition system, automatic cam chain tensioner
and YZ-type air-filter.
A linkage-mounted rear shock serving up 221mm of smooth,
progressive rear wheel travel and a robust 36mm front fork with
239mm of travel provides plush, confidence-inspiring control over
rough terrain.
ADR equipment includes a speedo, indicators, blinkers, lights
(and brake light switches) and the front brake comes with a braided
steel hose for improved stopping ability. And like all Yamaha's the
TT-R230A is equipped with DataDotDNA theft protection.
The ADR lighting system is all new for 2008. The charging system
is changed from a 12v 8 pole half wave system using a small
rectifier/regulator to a 12v 8 pole full wave system using a road
bike rectifier/regulator.
Both systems provide DC power to all ADR electrics for
consistent performance. But the advantage of the full wave system
and heavy duty rectifier/regulator is more consistent battery
charging at lower engine rpm, which is designed to better suit
riders using the machine at lower speeds.
In addition, the lighting system is changed so that instead of
the headlight low beam, instrument light and tail light coming on
whenever the key is turned on (as per previous model), a 5w
position lamp in the headlamp, instrument light and taillight now
comes on whenever the key is turned on.
Previously, the light switch on the left handlebar was fixed in
the on, position. But now the switch can be flicked on for night
time and off for daytime running. This system allows for a higher
level of battery charging during daytime running.
In addition to these changes, the 2008 TT-R230A now comes with
new handguards, a 'Yamaha' cross bar pad and trick new graphics
plus black painted frame. The full spares kit now contains the
following items supplied with the bike at no extra cost:
- Engine stop switch
- Engine start switch
- Ignition button switch
- Terminal block mounting bracket for top triple clamp
- Front brake hose
- Banjo bolt for front brake master cylinder
- 3 x muffler end cap bolts
- 2 x rear subframe end plugs
- Sidestand bolt
- Section (2 links) chain
- Rear sprocket
- TT-R230 Rectifier/regulator and mounting bolt
- Front MX number plate
- Mounting bracket for MX number plate
- Brushguard set
- Cross bar pad
All the additional ADR components are easily removable to turn
the TT-R230A back into a stripped down dirt bike if needed.
All this at a price you'll love: $5999 inc GST.
