Still available in two wheel-size versions, RM85 and RM85L (Bigwheel), Suzuki’s mini-class machine features a high-revving, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine that produces strong peak power and torque.

The 84.7cc, case-reed engine includes aluminium exhaust valves to offer an even expansion rate between the valves and the cylinder for improved sealing and a stable flow to the exhaust valve chamber.

An exhaust valve governor and link-style exhaust valve actuator similar to the RM125 are utilised for precise control of exhaust valve movement and excellent throttle response.

The Keihin PE28 carburetor provides smooth throttle response and is designed for simple maintenance.

A smooth-shifting, 6-speed transmission features a stronger shift-drum detent spring and needle bearing on the left side of the shift drum to reduce friction and improve operation, while the knurl-finished gear shift lever tip delivers excellent grip and shift feel.

The long clutch lever makes it easy for young riders to accurately locate and work the engagement point during starts and in corners.

The Showa 37mm inverted forks with fully-adjustable rebound damping and 20-way adjustable compression damping offer superior suspension performance, while a large diameter rear shock absorber gives greater rider comfort and strong bottoming resistance.

Providing excellent stopping power, the RM85’s front brake incorporates a twin-piston caliper, large-diameter 220mm brake disc, a front master cylinder with precise braking force control, and light weight brake hose.

The rear brake features a 200mm large-diameter single hydraulic disc with a rigid rear caliper with durable resin-type caliper guard for reliable braking performance, longer pad life and simple maintenance.

A forged aluminium-alloy brake pedal is designed with thick cross-section for more durability and accurate braking feel, while the RM85’s footpegs are made of cast chrome-molybdenum steel to offer riders optimal grip.

To fit a variety of young riders, the RM85L (Bigwheel) is suitable for taller riders, with 19 and 16-inch front and rear wheels versus the standard RM85’s 17 and 14-inch front and rear wheels.

Sporting the familiar Suzuki Champion Yellow livery, both the RM85 and RM85L feature a two-tone coloured seat to match the new 2006-range of blue/yellow graphics.

The 2006 Suzuki RM85 and RM85L models are scheduled to arrive in Australia in August with suggested retail prices to be announced closer to their respective release dates.
