One of Australia's most popular trucks - the T401 - and its bigger brother, the T404 - are now available with a 36" fully integrated flat roof sleeper that allows greater access for applications with height or body limitations. The new sleeper configuration offers all the comfort and space of an integrated design and full size access doors.

Designed for the professional driver who wants the top of the range in sleeper design, but still needs to work with low gantry heights or other operational issues, Kenworth engineers have been hard at work designing an even safer, more comfortable working environment to meet these needs.

Now, whether you are running tankers with fixed gantry height loading, or bulk tippers restricted by low hopper heights, the T401 and T404 can deliver a full size sleeper option with outstanding power, economy and driver comfort previously unavailable in these applications. The recessed back ensures full range versatility in trailer configuration too.

Kenworth's General Marketing and Sales Manager, Joe Rizzo, says this new variation of the existing model is in line with Kenworth's commitment to continuous product improvement and customer satisfaction.

"Kenworth has a reputation for not only building quality trucks but continually improving products to meet the changing needs of the industry," he said.

"One of the keys to our success is that we listen to our customers and act on their needs. This upgrade is designed to benefit both drivers, with improved comfort and safety, and owners with improved productivity and profitability," he added.

The curved dash and overhead console recently designed and introduced on both the T401 and T404 range is standard on the new entrant too, allowing the driver easier access to all switches and radios without having to stretch or reach unduly.

"The new dash layout has been enthusiastically received by our customers, providing the driver with a clear, unobscured view of all gauges, a drink holder, location for two CB radios and an area for the mounting of a mobile phone and extra gauges," he explained.

The overhead console houses electrical switches, air conditioner controls and an AM/FM radio.

"The T401 and T404 continue to be extremely popular models for our customers requiring a light-weight but powerful truck that offers driver comfort with spacious cabins and Airglide suspension. Combining this with a light tare weight, high-performance fuel-efficient engines and a short bumper-to-back-of-cab, means they can handle a variety of single trailer and B-Double applications that are normally reserved for bigger trucks," Mr Rizzo explained.

The T401 is available with a Caterpillar 12-litre C12 and Cummins 11-litre ISM engine, rated up to 430hp and developing 1650 lb/ft of torque.

The T404 is available with a Caterpillar 15-litre C15 delivering 475hp with 1750 lb/ft torque, the Cummins N14 rated up to 460hp with 1650 lb/ft torque and the Cummins ISX rated up to 475hp with 1650 lb/ft, or the Detroit Series 60 rated up to 470hp with 1650 lb/ft torque.

Standard features on the T401 and T404 also include new-style aerodynamic air intakes with two inlets to increase airflow for these higher-powered engines and a one-piece curved windscreen and Daylite doors for improved visibility.
