PowerTorque Magazine, Australia's leading heavy truck and trailer technology publication, has announced the winners of the PowerTorque Technology and Innovation Awards for 2020.

Now in its 14th year, the selection of the winning heavy-commercial vehicles results from consultation between the magazine's team of writers to select the models that best suit their intended purpose in the market.

"As we head into 2020, a scan of the sales performance of the major companies shows that success comes not to those who wait, but arrives at the door of those that put every effort into marketing their products to their customers," said managing editor Chris Mullett.

"Safety, technology and innovation, combined with reliability and functional fitness are the factors that contribute to lowering the total cost of operation," he added.

PowerTorque Magazine recognises the major achievements of the following manufacturers in the form of the Technology and Innovation Awards for 2020.

  • Scania Australia, both for the NGT range and for illustrating its future technology of increased safety, connectivity, automation, autonomy and alternative fuels.
  • PACCAR Australia's introduction of the new Kenworth wide-cab models continues with the T410, reinforcing its reputation for producing vehicles that match the harsh conditions of Australian transport. Driver safety features benefit from the inclusion of the full EBSS safety suite with collision avoidance and mitigation technology. The inclusion of DAF manufacturing at the Bayswater facility also future-proofs both the company and the PACCAR workforce.
  • Volvo Group Australia collectively scores a heavy-truck segment market share with UD, Volvo and MACK of 28.8 percent, making this the leading truck group in the Australian market. The achievement includes aspects from each model range, with the increased bunk size of the Volvo Globetrotter XXL, the inclusion of the latest safety systems of Bendix Wingman Fusion in MACK products, and the latest safety features available with the UD Quon that include disc brakes all round, lane-departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, stability control, adaptive radar cruise control, ABS and EBS.
  • Hino Motor Sales Australia for the high levels of technology and innovation incorporated in the Hino 500 Series. These models boast the most comprehensive active safety package of any Japanese truck in the medium-duty truck category.
  • Freightliner Australia.  PowerTorque Magazine has been monitoring the evolution of the New Freightliner Cascadia in advance of its launch onto the Australian market. The New Cascadia will initiate higher levels of safety and driver protection than previously available, driving down the total cost of operation.
