Led by a barnstorming performance from its GT250 nakedbike, Hyosung has more than doubled its road bike sales in the past year, according to figures released yesterday by Australia’s peak automotive association.

According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), which collates sales statistics in conjunction with the Melbourne-based research group, ERG International, Hyosung sold 615 road bikes in the first half of 2006, compared to 294 at the same time last year.

That represents an extremely buoyant 108 per cent rise for Hyosung Australia, which came under new ownership in May this year.

The GT250, which retails for $5590 (plus ORC), made the second biggest percentage rise of any road-registerable motorcycle in the past year – a whopping 325. Discounting Honda’s CT110, which is made-to-order by Australia Post, the GT250 is now the third biggest seller in the hard-fought 250cc class.

The GV250 Aquila cruiser also performed with aplomb in the quarter-litre battle, with sales increasing 53.8 per cent year-on-year.

Hyosung currently has a seven-bike and four-scooter range, with the GT650S Tourer ($8990 plus ORC) the latest addition to the motorcycle roster (see attached image).
