Honda Genuine Ride Red riders are well on their way to top ten finishes after positive results at round 2 of the MX Nationals held in Appin, NSW.
Rhys Budd and Jai Constantinou sit 7th and 10th overall respectively in the MXD championship after Budd finished 5th and Constantinou 14th for the day.
Both riders had clear intentions of chasing top 10 positions in the championship and pushed hard to ensure they got the result.
Budd was happy with his efforts but expressed his desire for a stronger finish; "I placed 2nd in moto 2 but I made some mistakes and burnt a lot of energy racing defensively. I am happy I have proved to myself that I can race with the front guys but I have also learnt I can't let them get away in the early part of the race," said Budd.
The Latimer brothers rode with conviction in the MX2 as they tackled the technical track in Appin. Ricky finished 16th overall for the day and Lochie finished 18th. They currently sit 16th and 20th in the championship.
"Whilst the track wasn't rough, it was technical. We were pushing to find traction as the track dried quickly and we learnt a lot. We both want to be higher up in the standings," said Ricky.
Joel Wightman continues to be the highest placed MX1 Ride Red rider, finishing 11th on the day and currently sits 11th overall in the championship. James Alen claimed 13th on the day and sits 13th overall in the championship after two rounds.
Joel Green had a trying weekend, tweaking his knee on his way to 18th on the day. Green sits 15th in the championship, followed by Lachie Davis who took a helicopter ride to the hospital after he had a hard fall in moto 2. Davis is okay and has been cleared of all serious injuries.
Izak Maule sits 21st overall, just 5 points outside of the top 20.
Honda Brand and Motorsports Manager Glyn Griffiths is impressed by the depth of talent in the MX Nationals across all classes and applauds the results of all Honda Genuine Ride Red riders.
"Our Honda Genuine Ride Red program is privateer based and all of our riders are doing a tremendous job! It was fantastic to see Rhys and Jai, our two MXD riders claim top 10 finishes and Joel Wightman continues to prove competitive in the MX1 class as a privateer. We look forward to Wonthaggi which is coincidently the round we are presenting."
