Julio Languiller, who is riding around Australia on a Honda
600cc Silverwing scooter in 15 days marked another milestone after
having passed the halfway mark.
Supported by Honda and Motorcycling Australia, Languiller
climbed aboard his machine in Melbourne, and departed on Sunday
August 6.
Since then he's averaged more than 1,000km a day on his run
which has followed Highway 1 through Adelaide, across the
Nullarbor, the South West, Perth, Canarvon, and Darwin.
Julio is now heading south towards Cairns, Townsville and down
the East Coast. Once completed, he will add this trip to his list
of endurance attempts that have included setting three world
records on Honda scooters for the most kilometres travelled in a 24
hour period.
To date, the Round Australia trip has been incident free,
although the early starts and occasional late finishes have
resulted in a few close encounters with livestock and wildlife.
"The best part of the journey so far has simply been the riding
and travelling experience that a motorcycle offers. It's quite
different from being in a car," Julio said. "The sights, sounds and
smells are fantastic."
The ride has been staged to raise funds for The Lighthouse
Foundation which provides housing for homeless adolescents in
Victoria.
The trip is also highlighting the economy, comfort and
reliability of modern four-stroke scooters such as Honda's Silver
Wing.
Julio said that the run has already proven that scooters are a
viable alternative to the car, whether used for commuting and/or
travelling.
Julio will be in Cairns on August 16, passing through Townsville
on August 17, before staying overnight in Rockhampton the night of
August 17.
He expects to finish at around 8.00pm on August 20 at
Melbourne's Federation Square.
