A high performance BMW K 1200 R is the transport of choice for Milla Jovovich reprising her role of Alice in the third instalment of the ultra-popular Resident Evil series.

The Resident Evil genre started life as a video game and soon became a global success story.

Following up on the feature-length Resident Evil film and its sequel, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, the heroine, Alice, again takes up the fight against the Umbrella Corporation in the eagerly awaited third instalment dubbed: Resident Evil: Extinction.

To commemorate the use of the K 1200 R in the latest movie, BMW Motorrad in Germany built a one-off show bike to promote the film's release, based on the 163 horsepower four-cylinder K 1200 R - currently the most powerful production naked roadster in the world.

In Australia, a locally produced, equally stunning show bike is currently in preparation.

"The BMW K1200 R has a massive visual impact in standard form, but when dressed to thrill in the guise of the Resident Evil 3 show bike replica, we are sure it will generate a huge response," said Miles Davis, Marketing Manager of BMW Motorrad Australia and New Zealand.

"We are planning to have this bike displayed in front of as many motorcycle fans as possible through the spring, to show off its unique and exciting artwork."

The German show bike was the work of talented artist Georg Huber. It features immaculately airbrushed spinal bones on the tank and detailed gold lettering on the fairing to tie in with the theme of the action movie.

Thomas Peter Friedl, Board Member of Constantin Film AG said: "The powerful BMW K 1200 R was chosen for the movie because of its muscular and aggressive appearance, which fits perfectly to Alice's ass-kicking performance in the movie."

RE3 the film takes off where Resident Evil: Apocalypse left off. It's been nearly five years since the events of the apocalypse, and biological engineering pharmaceutical company The Umbrella Corporation has failed to control the T-Virus outbreaks that have transformed the population into a scourge of shambling 'undead' with a taste for flesh.

Jovovich's character Alice was once held captive by the Umbrella Corporation and subjected to biogenic experimentation that left her genetically altered, giving her superhuman strengths, senses and dexterity. Mutating by the minute, and under constant threat of betrayal by her own Umbrella-engined DNA, Alice has been shadowing a convoy of uninfected survivors, standing by to protect them and hoping to somehow usher them to safety.

Jovovich is proud of the work she has done on the third film in this trilogy: "It was a lot of fun making it - these films have been a great experience for me. I guess I feel like I can do a lot of different parts, but action I really love. I enjoy training and working with weapons; it's a lot of fun but takes a lot of focus. I get to recreate this character and it's been a great opportunity for me - not many actors can say they have a three DVD box-set."

In RE3, Jovovich is well equipped. There are knives, dozens of guns, thousands of bullets and even a pair of flame-throwers, and the convoy scenes are reminiscent of the early Mad Max films that launched Mel Gibson's career. Jovovich is pleased with this connection.

"The writer and producers were always big fans of Mad Max and a lot of young people don't know the franchise. It's great because my little brother never saw the Mad Max films and this [RE3] opens up that genre for people again."

Allegedly, the only reason Jovovich originally agreed to do the first Resident Evil movie was because her computer-game-obsessed younger brother begged her to! It's obviously a decision she hasn't regretted as the first two films - Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse - have generated a turnover of over US$ 600million worldwide to date and have become one of the most successful movie franchises in Hollywood.

Resident Evil: Extinction is definitely not for the faint hearted, but those who enjoy the action/horror genre will see plenty of the 163 hp BMW K 1200 R. The new film will receive its world premiere on 20 September in Las Vegas and in Australia on October 11.
