Optional extras and special equipment.

The BMW R 1200 R is unique in the market, being an agile and dynamic Roadster that remains true to the classic dream of sheer riding pleasure.

As ever, BMW Motorrad offers a very wide range of additional features for the new Roadster, catering to even the most demanding customers’ desires to personalise their purchase.

BMW Motorrad is the leader in active safety, as its new generation Integral ABS proves.

This optional new generation of ABS brake technology, just like BMW Motorrad’s unique ASC anti-spin control, makes its world debut in the R 1200 R.
BMW counts the main stand, heated handles, an anti-theft warning system, cylinder protection hoops and a chrome-plated exhaust among its options, in addition to innovative features such as the on-board computer and ESA Electronic Suspension Adjustment, not forgetting the ever handy BMW navigation system.

To further decorate the already impressive Roadster’s looks, customers may option aluminium parts finished in chrome or milled from a complete block.

While many optional extras can be factory fitted, a wide range of features can be supplied by the BMW Motorrad dealer.

ESA Electronic Suspension Adjustment.

When fitted with the optional ESA, the rider can easily adjust the suspension setting of the machine via a button located on the handlebars.

This adjustment function is available even while riding, with the system functions being the same as on the R 1200ST and R 1200 RT.

ESA offers a high standard of comfort in control and ensures optimum adjustment of spring elements to the rider’s particular style of riding
and load conditions at any given point in time.

The system also takes the higher standard of riding dynamics on the Roadster into account and makes a significant contribution to superior riding safety.

TPC tyre pressure control.

Optional TPC tyre pressure control makes a significant contribution to rider safety by displaying the pressure in both tyres at the touch of a button. A side benefits is that riders no longer need to fiddle with grubby valve caps at petrol stations to monitor their tyre pressures.

The data required for tyre pressure control comes from sensors in the wheels.

TPC also features an active warning function: As soon as the system recognises a relevant deviation from the pressure required, a yellow information light or, in the event of a greater deviation, a red warning light automatically informs the rider of the current status.

TPC is scheduled for introduction in late 2006 and will then be available as factory fit. It may also be retrofitted.

On-board computer.

The on-board computer available as an optional extra gives the rider even more information about his machine or his journey.

Again at the touch of a button, the rider can access information on remaining fuel, distance to empty, engine oil temperature, average speed, average fuel consumption, and ambient temperature.

A key safety feature for Europe or winter riding in Alpine areas, a temperature warning is displayed when there is a risk of treacherous black ice, when the ambient temperature drops to 3 degrees C or below.

Case support.

The new BMW R 1200 R is available ex-factory with an elegant case support designed to match the slender rear design of the machine. An alternative is the special equipment case support featuring an additional luggage rack.

Sports windshield.

The sports-minded rider has no reason to forego adequate protection from wind and weather, particularly as the new machine is far more dynamic than its predecessor.

This efficient protection is provided by the sports windshield which, despite its small dimensions, efficiently guides wind and weather away from the rider. The scratch-proof surface ensures lasting transparency.

There is also the option of a high-rise windshield available as special equipment and described in greater detail below.

Double seat bench low and high.

To offer both the shorter and taller riders an optimum seating position, BMW Motorrad is able to provide both a lower (seat height 770 mm) and higher (seat height 830 mm) seat. These are offered as no cost options as factory fit.

Direction indicators in white LED technology.

The BMW R 1200 R will also be offered with white direction indicators in LED technology scheduled from early 2007. These will be fitted ex-factory or by the BMW Motorrad dealer.

System cases.

The case system available for BMW’s new Roadster is the same as on the R 1200 ST and R 1200 RT. Hence, the watertight cases offer a capacity of 32 litres and are readily accessible thanks to their simple and convenient closing mechanism. Through their carefully conceived design, the cases do not stick out too far despite their ample capacity.

Topcase.

The topcase is also the same as on the R 1200 ST, increasing the Roadster’s luggage capacity by a significant 28 litres – enough space for light travel luggage or a helmet. A further advantage is that the topcase fits quickly and very conveniently on the luggage rack, the back padding also available as an option offering the passenger extra seating comfort at all times.

Tankbag.

The practical tankbag is a special development for the R 1200 R and adjusts perfectly to the contours of the tank itself. The extendable main compartment features an inner bag lockable and glued into position to reliably protect the contents from getting wet and thus eliminating the need for an inconvenient rain cover.

The map pocket offering ample space for an unfolded DIN A4 road map is also watertight. On the side facing the rider, the tankbag comes with an additional, sewn-on pocket complete with a separate zipper for all kinds of odds and ends and again easily accessible for practical use.

High Windscreen.

This is similar in dimension to the high screen offered on the R 1150 R and it significantly reduces the forces acting on the rider at high speeds, allowing even long distance high speed autobahn travelling without fatigue.

Optical embellishment.

BMW Motorrad is developing a special range of accessories allowing the discerning rider to upgrade their R 1200 R to an even higher level. Currently under development are chrome-plated custom mirrors, cover caps for the fork bridge and Telelever machined from a solid billet, a milled Paralever bar, handbrake lever, clamping supports, and chrome-plated cylinder head covers.

This special range of customising features is currently in preparation. Full details will be disclosed in due course.

Accessories for all Boxer models.

BMW Motorrad is also working on further accessories for its Boxer models. These include a paddock stand, a lockable oil plug, an additional toolkit, as well as cables and a support for the BMW Motorrad Navigator.
