BMW continues a long and proud tradition with the introduction of the new R 1200 R roadster, the successor to the distinguished R 1150 R.

Around 60,000 customers have selected the R 1150 R and the R 850 R as their roadsters of choice since 2001, reinforcing the BMW belief that there is a significant and eager market for a machine that combines classic design, unique character and timeless elegance.

The new BMW Roadster matches the trend towards enhanced dynamics with greater agility and excellent all-round touring qualities.

The 1,170 cc Boxer twin power unit, shared with the R 1200 RT develops a healthy 80 kW. This is a substantial 28 percent more power than the R 1150 R engine. An engine the oil cooler is fitted behind the wheel fork.

The rear section of the tubular spaceframe has been specially developed for the Roadster, helping to give the entire rear end a light and nimble appearance and reducing the overall weight of the machine.

Dry weight of BMW Motorrad’s new R 1200 R all-rounder is therefore just 198 kg. In road trim and with a full tank, in turn, the new machine also remains very light at just 223 kg, far lighter than the four-cylinder machines in this market segment.

Stacked with advanced technology, the BMW Roadster sets new standards, further underlining BMW’s claim to leadership in road safety.

And for the first time the new model features the new generation of BMW Motorrad Integral ABS, which may be combined as an option with ASC anti-spin control.

TPC tyre pressure control, which warns the rider of a loss of air pressure even while riding is now under development as a further feature for superior safety.

As expected of BMW, a wide range of optional extras and special equipment allows the customer to personalise their purchase to their particular needs.
