New Mazda6 has received the maximum five star safety rating, from the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), across all vehicle variants.

Tested according to the stringent new standards from Australia's leading independent vehicle safety advocate, New Mazda6 was measured against its adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection and safety assist, to emerge from testing with the highest possible rating.

ANCAP Chief Executive, James Goodwin, noted that Mazda6 showed strong safety performance across the board, but particularly in the adult and child occupant protection segments, where the vehicle scored 95 percent and 91 percent respectively.

"Mazda6 achieved maximum points for protection of the driver in the full width frontal, side impact and oblique pole tests, and maximum points for child occupant protection across dynamic front and side testing," Mr Goodwin commented.

From a vulnerable road user protection standpoint, Goodwin noted, "Mazda6's 'active' bonnet is a welcome inclusion, which assists with the protection of pedestrians in the event of collision."

Launched to the Australian market in late May, New Mazda6 comes standard with a wider range of i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies, including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go (MRCC).

The top-grade Atenza model adds Mazda's new 360° View Monitor, offering extra visibility to help drivers avoid potentially dangerous situations, and a new seven-inch TFT LCD display screen in the centre of the instrument cluster to dynamically display information depending on the driver's needs.

Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Recognition, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, and Adaptive LED Headlamps continue to play an important role in the safety makeup of the lauded Mazda6.

Managing Director of Mazda Australia, Vinesh Bhindi, said: "Nods of approval from advisory bodies like ANCAP are an important testament to the countless hours Mazda engineers and designers commit to assessing, refining and developing the safety technology of our vehicles."

"Many of our i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies are invisible to the driver's eye, they deliver critical peace of mind for our customers, particularly those investing in a vehicle for their family."

The five star rating of Mazda's flagship passenger car cements the continuation of five star ratings across the entire Mazda range.
